Select Lectures - Basic Design Concepts

The Basic Design Concepts module set covers the concepts behind user interface design and web engineering. This module set comprises two video modules. Each module is shipped on a single DVD for viewing on a computer only

Human-Computer Interface Design

Because human-computer interaction studies a human and a machine in conjunction, it draws from supporting knowledge on both the machine and the human side. On the machine side, techniques in computer graphics, operating systems, programming languages, and development environments are relevant. On the human side, communication theory, graphic and industrial design disciplines, linguistics, social sciences, cognitive psychology, and human performance are relevant.

In these sessions we cover the many issues facing user interface designers, provide fundamental design guidelines, show how these are applied during the development process with a small case study, and close on considering the possible futures of interfaces.

In this module we recognize the reality of delivering solutions that meet business needs

Fundamentals of Web Engineering

Web-based systems and applications deliver a complex array of content and functionality to a broad population of end-users.  Web engineering is the process that is used to create high-quality Web Applications. Web Engineering is not a perfect clone of software engineering, but it borrows many of software engineering’s fundamental concepts and principles. In addition, the Web Engineering process emphasizes similar technical and management activities. There are subtle differences in the way these activities are conducted, but an overriding philosophy is identical—a disciplined approach to the development of a computer-based system with the intent of providing an end product that satisfies all stakeholders.
